Atiq Rahimi

Atiq Rahimi was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1962. When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, Rahimi fled to Pakistan for a year. Rahimi then relocated to France after receiving Political Asylum. His first book "Earth and Ashes" was a bestseller in Europe and South America. He later made a movie based on this book and was awarded the Prix du Regard Vers L'Avenir at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004. Atiq Rahimi is currently living in France.

Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1965. He and his family later moved to the U.S and received Political Asylum in 1980. He was named a U.S Envoy to the United Nations Refugee Agency in 2006. "The Kite Runner" was his first novel which was later made into a movie. "A Thousand Splendid Suns" is his second book. Khaled Hosseini is a doctor currently living in California.
